Juvéderm

Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid in the form of a gel injected into the face to produce a younger feel to the patient’s skin. Its most common treatments are for cosmetic surgeries to soften deep folds, reducing wrinkles in the face, lip augmentation and to fill in hollow places and scars in the face of a patient. This product can efficiently reduce undesirable lines in the face improving the look and feel of your skin.

Juvéderm is a prime selection for most patients according to a recent study by Allergan in 2012 (Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, Volume II. Issue 4, pg 279-289 December 2012), due to the longevity of its effects. The injection can last on the patient’s body 6-9 months, depending on the ability of the body to absorb the hyaluronic acids (Juvéderm’s main ingredient).

This product has been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) since 2006 and has been compared to facial filler called Zyplast, used in prior years. The conclusion found that 88% of the patients tested on, preferred Juvéderm over the competition.

In addition, doctors and patients prefer the use of Juvéderm over the competition because of its ease of application in sensitive areas.

Juvéderm Voluma XC

Juvéderm Voluma is an injected form of hyaluronic acid designed to lift and produce younger looking skin around the patient’s cheeks. It is most commonly used for cosmetic surgery to soften and lift the skin around the cheek bones.

The procedure corrects volume loss caused by aging and adds fullness to the face. It is injected deep into the facial tissue and produces results lasting an average of two years.

This product was approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in 2013 with 86% of results lasting a full two years.

Differences between Juvéderm and Juvéderm Voluma

• Juvéderm is designed to soften wrinkles around the lips and eyes.
• Juvéderm Voluma is a deeper injection specifically designed for the cheeks and mid-face.

What can you expect?

Older faces take on more youthful aspects because hyaluronic acid is known to bind with collagen—the material that supports human facial skin—and elastin to move more basic nutrients into the skin.

Health Risk Factors

Patients, physicians, and researchers say usual, expected side effects include temporary redness, pain and tenderness during injections and swelling and bruising at the injection sites. The more serious side effects include immune system reactions that result in facial lumps and bumps known as granulomas, bothersome reactions that are very difficult for physicians to treat. According to Allergan, Juvéderm should not be used in patients with severe allergies, particularly those who have allergies to bacterial proteins or patients with a history of anaphylaxis, which is a potentially life-threatening hypersensitivity to some drugs and proteins.
